Preserving and canning the fruits of the farm

Writer: ellenmirroellenmirro

We like to eat what we grow.

The garden and berry patches gives us cucumbers, plums, figs, blueberries, apples, raspberries, and tomatoes. In order to enjoy this bounty all year long, we use the book Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving for recipes and advice on food safety.

The months between July and October are busy here as we make a years supply of pickles, relish, jams, and applesauce to store in the pantry. Figs, plums, apples, and herbs like oregano can also be dehydrated in the food dehydrator.

All of this bounty gives us a good variety of homegrown food throughout the year.
